Investors and private equity firms in Mauritius

Mauritius hosts far more licensed entities than it has active regional investors. This register separates the funds that deploy from the vehicles that hold.

Search for private equity in Mauritius and the counts you find are large. They are also, mostly, not what a founder is looking for. Mauritius is an international financial centre: the Financial Services Commission licenses Global Business Companies used to structure investments into Africa and Asia, and a great many of those entities are holding, feeder or structuring vehicles rather than institutions with a mandate to write a cheque into a Mauritian or regional business.

The distinction matters commercially. A directory that counts licences tells a founder how popular Mauritian structuring is. It does not tell them who might fund their business. This register lists firms at the level a founder can act on - type, sectors, instruments, ticket range, the geographies they actually cover - and it lists them only where the firm has agreed to appear.

The genuine Mauritian investor population spans a few recognisable groups: the commercial and investment banks that lend against balance sheets and projects; regional private equity and venture funds, several of which run their Africa strategies out of Port Louis; development finance institutions and their local intermediaries; and a growing set of family offices whose capital was made in the domestic economy and is now looking outward. Each behaves differently, and the register records which is which rather than flattening them into one list.

Mauritius is also where a great deal of Indian Ocean deal structuring lands even when the operating business is elsewhere, which is why a Madagascar or Seychelles project frequently meets its investor here. Founders reading this page from outside Mauritius are in the right place; the ticket ranges and instruments shown are the ones that matter, not the jurisdiction of the vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there fewer firms here than on the large global directories?
Because this register lists firms that deploy, with their agreement, rather than every entity holding a Mauritian licence. A shorter list a founder can act on is more useful than a long one they have to filter themselves.
Do Mauritius-based investors fund businesses outside Mauritius?
Frequently, yes. Mauritius is where much Indian Ocean and African deal structuring sits, so a fund based there may have a mandate covering Madagascar, East Africa or the wider region. Each profile states the geographies the firm actually covers.
How is a Mauritian investor verified?
Verification is a separate step from listing. A firm supplies three documents, or an attestation from its lawyer, accountant or banker; our team confirms it directly with the attesting professional. Turnaround is 24 working hours.
What does it cost a founder to be introduced?
Nothing. There is no success fee and no charge for submission, screening, introduction or follow-up.
